“Don’t Ask Me Why” — God’s Rich Love

In my walk with God, I’ve struggled a lot with just accepting His love.

Accepting His, “I put my only Kid on the cross and let Him die for you,” love.

Mainly because I feel like I don’t deserve it.

In fact, I know I don’t deserve it:

“Therefore no one will be declared righteous in God’s sight by the works of the law, rather, through the law we become conscious of our sin.” — Romans 3:30 NIV

Now one will ever deserve it. That’s the whole reason God had to send Jesus to do it, save humanity.

Now, as someone who has a hard time accepting compliments, you can imagine the hard time I can have accepting God’s love. The way God loves is mind-boggling and uncomfortable.

Yes, God’s love makes me straight up uncomfortable sometimes, and I think that’s true for a lot of Christians but we just don’t talk about it because we think it makes us sound like we don’t love God.

Well, I already know love God. So there goes that theory (out the window where it deserves to go).

We also know that God already knows how we’re feeling. So it’s actually a waste of time trying to pretend like we’re not feeling it.

I’d much rather bring it to God, and ask Him to help me get through the feeling and to the promise. Amen.

The older generation says, “God’s has been too good!” That phrase has racked up a new level of understanding for me, because I’m realizing that God’s love is just too good for me to comprehend with my limited human understanding.

When I think about someone who loves with patience, kindness, grace that gives what isn’t deserved, forgives what is unforgiveable, stays closer than a sibling, is willing to take the fall and die for acts they didn’t commit — I get overwhelmed. God is truly not a man (Old Head Saying #2), because a human capable of loving like this could never exist.

Except for Sweet Jesus:

“This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace that came by Christ Jesus. God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood — to be received by faith.” — Romans 3:22 NIV

Hallelujah!

I won’t keep you too long church (Old Head Saying #3). I just want to invite you into my musings about the greatness of God. It is a form of worship when we just sit and think on all He is and promises to be for eternity.

“Kirk Whalum — It’s What I Do — 2011 Grammy Winner!”

There’s a song on this Gospel Jazz album (oh, the things you will find on your walk with Christ) by Kirk Whalum, voice talent by Lalah Hathaway, called “It’s What I Do”:

Don’t ask me why…
Don’t wonder how…
Don’t bother asking how it’s possible to love
Someone like you
It’s cause you’re mine…
It’s cause you’re you…
It’s cause I’m love…
It’s what I do.
Nothing you do,
Nothing you say,
Nothing could change the love that I promised you
When I promised you I’d stay
It’s cause you’re mine…
It’s cause you’re you…
It’s cause I’m love…
It’s what I do.

Yes I know all there is to ever know…
Where you’ve been and where you’ll ever go…
All your mistakes from yesterdays and the ones you’ll make tomorrow
You’ve been trying so hard to comprehend
What kind of love could cover all that sin
Just know there’s nothing you could ever do…
That would ever… ever…
Ever change my love for you

Don’t ask me why…
Don’t wonder how…
Don’t bother asking how it’s possible to love someone like you
It’s cause you’re mine…
It’s cause you’re you…
It’s cause I’m love…
It’s what I do.

Long Story, Shorter: Don’t let the want of understanding block your need of God’s love. Replace your “why” with “Thank You”, and let the Lord of Creation do what He does best:

Love.

Let God love you the way He wants to. I promise it’s far greater than the way you deserve to be loved.

In fact, it is the way you deserve to be loved, because what God designates as His best should be our standard….so the standard is “too good”.

I’m asking God to change me, to help me stop settling for sin and shame and start getting loved in a way that is too good to comprehend. Amen!

To clarify, “start” does not mean that God waits for us to give our lives over to Christ before He begins to love us.

Love is always making its way to us, we never have to chase it. We just have to remove the obstacles and barries preventing it from getting to us. We have to let go of what’s not love. — Shannon Evette, “Denouncing the 3 Barriers to my BREAKTHROUGH”)

God is always sending us His love, but He will never take away our free will to choose it. He is the God of Consent.

Giving your life over to Christ signifies that you’re ready to receive the love that’s always been there, just waiting for you to say, “Yes”.

I’m almost done (Old Saint Saying #4), but have you ever seen the cliché, “get rich or die trying?”

The beauty of God’s love is that in dying to my flesh, I gain new riches for eternity. Riches that won’t fall apart or fade away. God gives me a richness that, no matter how much I spend it, will never run out.

“Love never fails…And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” — 1 Corinthians 3:8 and 13 NIV

God’s love is the only currency where the more you spend it, the more you have of it. Too good!

I’m done. God loves with richness. So, on this day, I’m inviting you to be RICH.

Thank You, God, for who You are. Thank You for Your unchanging character that abounds in limitless love, the greatest of all Your creations. God, help us remove the blockages that are preventing us from accepting Your love. Thank You for Lord Jesus, Your beloved Son, who committed the ultimate act of love, so that we can be free indeed to love and be loved by You for all of eternity. It is in His name we pray, Amen.

I love you, and God loves us (RICHLY).

Until next time,

MJ
